In many ways, best friends Allison Kopach and Jenny Flores are typical pageant queens. They love makeup, fashion, and anything that sparkles. However, unlike Miss America, at a size 22 the only doors open to them are in the plus size pageant world.

There She Is follows the two as they prepare for and compete in the 2011 American Beauties Plus Pageant and revisits them in 2012 to reflect on the outcome of the pageant and what has changed in their lives.

For more information, please check out the film's website. If you'd like to see the full film, please contact me.

Elite Bodies by J. Ellis Jones

Elite Bodies by J. Ellis Jones is a small business run out of Brooklyn, New York. The owner, Jay, spoke with me about making 2 short commercial spots that highlighted the positives of working with a trainer out of his facility.

I suggested contrasting the annoyances of the regular gym experience with the one on one training he offers out of his studio. Jay liked this direction and mentioned he'd recently added an mp3 player hookup so his clients could work out to their playlists instead of the traditional gym music.

From there, I created Noise, which addresses both the original concept for the spots and alludes to the fact that clients at J. Ellis Jones can work out to their "own soundtrack".

The second spot used humor to exaggerate how uncomfortable other people can make the gym going experience. Jay mentioned that a good portion of his clients begin training at the studio because they tend to feel self conscious at big gyms in front of other people. With this spot, we wanted to contrast the idea of one on one training with a self-conscious gym goer's worst nightmare.
